Hot Brew

Reminder: You may need to adjust your tea amounts to accommodate your taste. However, these amounts should be a good starting point. Don't hesitate to email us with any questions!

Mug: Most mugs are 12 oz and would require about 6g of tea, which is 1 Zenith Spoon or 2 tsps. Add tea to a strainer and pour over 200°F water. Let steep for 3-4 minutes. Once it is ready, you can save your tea leaves in the strainer for another brew after! Sometimes you can get up to 3 good brews with this method.

Tea Pot: Using the same method as above, add enough tea to the strainer to accommodate the amount of water used in the tea pot. Generally speaking, every 8oz (1 cup or 230ml) requires 4g of tea, or a heaping teaspoon.

Gaiwan of Gung Fu: Arguably the most traditional way to drink oolong, a Gaiwan is specially designed to allow many short brews of the same leaves. This allows the drinker to experience many complex flavors as the tea leaves gradually open.

There are many methods of brewing tea like this, but this is the one we prefer. Add about 12g of tea (2 Zenith Spoons or 4 tsp) to the bowl or pot and pour over about 150ml (5 oz) of boiling water. Steep for 1 minute and pour the liquid into a drinking cup (or cups) while leaving the leaves in the bowl or pot. Repeat up to 6 times with the same leaves but increase the steep time with every brew.

Cold Brew

Oolong is the perfect tea for cold brewing because it does not get bitter if you leave it steeping too long. Below are what we consider to be the best instructions for cold brewing your oolong tea, but you may need to adjust for your own taste.

Add 3g (1/2 Zenith Spoon or 1 tsp) for every 500ml (17oz) of water to a tea strainer or tea bag. Pour over cool water and let sit at room temperature for 3 hours or in the fridge overnight. Remove the leaves and enjoy! You can also reuse the leaves for a hot brew if you'd like.
